First Tomatoes Planted in the Field!

The first few days of spring have been very warm but also signals a big change with all of the summer crops getting planted or about to be planted.

Last Friday we planted the first tomatoes, five rows of seven different varieties. They are definitely enjoying the warm weather after they got a lot of water this past weekend.

Three of the varieties of tomatoes we planted are cherry tomatoes including the uber-popular Sungold. They are so delicious and we’ll have to stop ourselves from eating them while we are picking them.

The rain that was forecasted for Saturday never came so we had to irrigate the tomatoes more than we had hoped for.

Broccoli and cabbage were also planted on Friday along with direct seeding our first planting of green beans on Monday.

It was in the mid-80s on Tuesday which definitely feels more like a temperature in May than March and makes everyone worried that won’t be getting any more rain until the Fall.

All of our crops are enjoying the warmer weather and growing pretty well over the last few weeks. The first lettuces are showing signs they aren’t far from harvest and everything else is making progress.

Finally the potatoes we planted a month ago have started to pop out of the ground and the first leaves are showing.
