First Day at the Davis Farmers Market Today!

It is earlier than expected but we are happy to finally have some veggies ready to harvest! Our first harvest is this morning and we will be at the Davis Farmers Market in Central Park from 3-6 today, Wednesday March 30th.

We will have the first of our radishes, turnips, bok choy, tarragon, chives and dill.

It’s exciting to be able to sell at the farmers market in the town that we grew up in and know so many people.

Just as exciting as our first crops being ready to harvest is the fact that we got some very much needed rain Sunday night and Monday. On the farm it came out to about half an inch which the soil desperately needed.

It came at a perfect time as we had just planted a lot of crops and the crops already in the ground were needing some rain water. There is just something in rain water that the plants love that well water doesn’t have.

Last Friday we got our first planting of eggplant in the ground as well as basil and more lettuce. We had some amazing help from family as well as Lloyd to get all those plants in the ground and it went by very quickly.

The warm weather that is following this rain will help all the plants grow a lot so we should see a lot of crops ready to harvest in the next few weeks.

As well as all the crops growing quickly the weeds will grow quickly so we are trying to stay ahead on the weeding.

One of the varieties of snap peas we are growing is flowering right now and the other peas should not be too far behind.

The onions that we started in the greenhouse back in January are ready to go out so we will be planting them at the the end of the week as well as some shallots.
