It has been an amazing year!!

Time flies and it feels like yesterday we were planting our first seeds and now we are getting close to the end of our first year on the farm.

It has been such an incredible year for both of us being able to run our own farm and do what we love in a community that means so much to us.

When this amazing opportunity was presented to us we knew it was possible to farm this land together full-time and we set goals we would be happy with which we have surpassed.

We could not have done it without the support from everyone!

Sometimes it seems to us that we are always talking about and thinking about how we can improve or change something to get more production out of a crop or make it easier but in these last two weeks we’ve started to look more at everything that went well this year.

We’ve been able to do that since it has been rainy and the fields are muddy which makes out workload lighter. We even each got to take a full day off plus a few days where we only worked a few hours.

Since last Thursday we’ve gotten over 2.5 inches of rain on the farm. The soils were so happy to receive all that rained and it has soaked all the way in with the plans showing signs they are happy about it.

With all that rain we have not done very much at all in the field other than harvest for the the past week. We’ve been seeing a lot of weeds germinate and with the sun coming out and starting to dry the soil out we started weeding the garlic.

Over the next week we will do a lot of weeding since there is not any chance of rain to make the soil muddy again. Fortunately it is not that warm so the weeds won’t grow super quick but its best to get ahead of the weeds then let them run wild.

The other key task that we have just completed is ordering all of our seeds for the spring and summer. It is a pretty long list of varieties but spending a few hours focused on it we were able to get it all sorted out.

We are growing mostly the same crops but have tossed in a few surprises!
