Potatoes, Weeding and Planting!!!

After planting the potatoes they it took awhile to pop out from underneath the soil but are furiously growing now.

Yesterday we watered them for the first time since planting back in February as well as before watering we weeded and then hilled up the potatoes.

We will be bringing our first little gem lettuces, red russian kale and collards to the Davis Farmers Market in Central Park from 3-6 today. We also will have bok choy, turnips, radishes, tarragon, dill and chives.

This past week we spent an entire day planting onions, shallots, fennel, lettuce and green onions. We planted two types of onions, a fresh yellow onion and a storage yellow one, and have a red variety that we will be transplanting soon.

Our last succession of tomatoes and eggplants were seeded on Monday which is crazy to think since we just planted our first succession a few weeks ago and are nowhere near close to our first ripe tomatoes.

In the next couple of weeks we will start putting stakes out on the tomatoes and string to hold them up.

Everything has grown extremely well over the last week thanks to the 1/2 inch of rain 10 days ago and the warm weather we are experiencing. On Thursday and Friday it is looking like we might get temperatures above 90 degrees.

Along with everything we have transplanted and direct seeded, the weeds have been loving life so a lot of our energy is going into taking them out to allow the veggies to thrive.

In other exciting news, we will be attending the Benicia Farmers Market this year which is at south end of the Solano County while we are at the northernmost edge. The market starts, Thursday, April 28 and runs through October 27 from 4-8 p.m April- August and 4-7 p.m. September-October.
