Watching seeds germinate

The anticipation of waiting for the first seeds to germinate seems to make the seeds take longer to pop out of the soil. We were checking every day and finally on Friday the first ones popped up.

They were some of the cabbage and as of now almost the entire tray has germinated which is very exciting. Over the next four weeks they will grow up to a size where we can hopefully then plant them outside in early February.

All the lettuce we seeded last week are also germinating pretty well.

One of our favorite part of farming is watching the seeds grow from just seeds all the way to transplanting in the field and then harvesting the crop.

Many more trays were seeded Monday as the amount keeps on increasing. We seeded two types of kale, chard, collards, caraflex cabbage and lots of green onions.

We have been getting some sun for the past few days and it looks like more sun for the next week. The weeds have started to grow in the field and we began weeding the beds that we will be direct seeding at the end of January.

We also have been spending a good amount of time working on paperwork the past few days for the organic certification and the certified producers certificate.
